We’re so excited to share these with you! They’re big and beautiful and feel great in the hands. Easy on the eyes, too, in large font with one story per page. Open at random almost anywhere and you’ll have two stories to read, JK’s on the left-hand page and JR’s on the right.

The Heart-Shaped Box: Time to Write! is a two-volume collection of flash fiction and non-fiction, the result of a writing practice two friends engaged in for over a decade, meeting once a week and, after choosing a word prompt from the heart-shaped box, writing non-stop for fifteen minutes. Read more about our process in How it Works.

During the pandemic, JR decided to compile the stories and lay them out in book format and for the first time saw both stories across the page from each other. Seeing them like this, it was fun to see the results of each deep dive, two perspectives on the same phrase or word prompt.

Writing Practice

A weekly practice adds up! We met once a week, as able, and in the end we each had a stack of 267 stories.
